Left panel of the triptych

Peleponissos Tryptichos
Exhibition in the Art Park, Archipolis, Rhodes, Greece, 2008.

Europe burns. The Peloponnese is in flames. Historical places are threatened, a cultural landscape is threatened by the flames, and whole village communities lose their existence. People die!
The rich countries of Northern Europe indulge in discussions about measures which should be in effect in thirty years. The media put the blame on the usual suspects.
Late at night on a news-channel there is the voice of the president of the Greek voluntary fire department and reforestation, ESEPA, Nikos Sachinides. He speaks of possible future climate changes. From an extraordinary heat wave straight to the forest fires.
Europe burns. No charity gala during prime time television, no solidarity for the fire fighters and the victims. The attention economy of the media society has forced for a long time other subjects on the title pages of the newspapers.
A photograph hides a surprise. During the development of the photographs I see the heat of the summer in the portrayed objects. The sun that has been shining for months has stamped itself in the objects. In my mind the idea of an installation originates.
A triptych of photographs that will be like a memorial service to the place and the victims of the fire.
